Before Surgery After surgery
I was born with a posteromedial bow in my left tibia as well as a leg length discrepancy. So as I grew my left tibia grew slower then my right. When I was in grade two I had limb lengthening surgery to correct about a four centimeter difference. For this procedure a monotube type of external fixator was used. After about seven months and four surgeries we had successfully completed four centimeters of lengthening and I had the monotube removed.
I am now in grade seven and have had surgery to lengthen as well as straighten my left tibia using the Illizarov frame. We have lengthened about two and a half centimeters. A wire has broken and so has a screw which required unexpected surgeries.
On June 25 2009 I had the Illizarov removed and than the cast removed a couple weeks later.
